Samichlaus - Swiss Santa Day
Ich liebe den Schweizer Samichlaus-Brauch, auch wenn ich mich als Kind eher vor ihm gefürchtet habe.
Für mich gehört zum 6. Dezember das Backen von Grittibänzen, Nüssli, Manderindli und Lekuchen. Vor dem Samichlaus-Tag esse ich keine Nüssli und Manderindli.
In unserem Schweiz-Englischen Haushalt feiern wir die Feiertage und Traditionen aus beiden Ländern und so ist der Samichlaus-Tag ein fixer Termin in unserem Kalender, egal ob wir in der Schweiz oder in England sind.
Und so gibt es heute Grittibänzen, Nüssli und Manderindli und natürlich auch ein Samichlaus-Säckli.
Die Grittibänzen mache ich immer aus Zopfteig, nach dem Rezept meiner Mutter. Das Rezept findet ihr am Ende des Posts nach den Fotos.
I love the swiss tradition of Samichlaus - St. Nicholas Day, even though I was quite scared as a child of Samichlaus and Schmutzli. In Switzerland Samichlaus visits the children on 6th December with Schmutzli and a donkey who carries his bags. Schmutzli wears a dark coat and has a blacked out face.
Samichlaus knows if you were well behaved in the last year. I've you've been good you get a treat bag (Samichlaus-Säckli) with mandarins, peanuts, chocolates, gingerbread and lots of other sweats. If you're behaviour wasn't up to standards, Schmutzli would take you in his bag and take you to his home in the forest.
In our Swiss-English household we celebrate the traditions and holidays of both countries. So Samichlaus-Day, 6th December, is a fixture in our calendars.
A Swiss-Samichlaus-Day is celebrates with a Samichlaus made of bread, roasted peanuts, mandarins, chocolates and gingerbread.
To make the bread Santa I use my mothers recipe for Butterzopf. You'll find the recipe at the end of the post after the pictures.
